After a week of averaging over 500 a day, they are finally starting to drop
off.

That's what I've been feeling as well - the last couple of days!

I've been looking at a lot of the SWEN-mails that were coming in - and
ever more of them have the attachment stripped off - combined with a
virus-warning that has been added by the senders admin.

In addition to that you would think, that almost everybody's computer
should have begun "doing strange things" and their "owners" doing
something against it...

Well into week two and no relief at all inside my Yahoo account.

Seems to be slowing here. I am now able to leave my computer off at night
without my mailbox overfilling. It may be that the virus is slowing down,
or yahoo is doing something, or it may be because I munged my email address
in my posts about a week or so ago. Perhaps the worm only harvests
addresses from current posts and replies.

New SWENS coming into my Earthlink e-mail account haven't abated a bit (pun).
Still getting at least one an hour, and they all include the virus attachment.
F-ing e-mail downloads have slowed down my Earthlink dialup connection so badly
that tolerating all the junkmail on a Hotmail account is preferable :-(

Mailwasher lets you delete e-mails from the server without downloading
more than the headers. Priceless in situations like this.

About only current posts, I don't think so. This is my first post in several weeks,
but I've been getting an estimated 50 to 100 copies of it per day -- maybe more --
all to the email address I was previously using only for Usenet. It was an alternate
email address for my earthlink account. I deleted that yesterday, and I haven't
received a single copy of the worm since then, or at least none that I know of.

(I have a new Usenet email address now, but I munged that for this post, so if
you want to write me, you'll have to get rid of SWEN.) I don't think it's a good
idea to use a real address until that worm is gone -- and then only an address
that can be deleted at will in case of other similar stuff.

I had a lull (not absence, just less) for a couple days, but it seems to
have resumed its intensity sometime earlier today. The same filters that
caught it before are still just as effective.
I notice that my IMAP addy must have a cap on the available inbox,
because I can check when logging on and delete about a hundred or so,
then after about a minute check again and there will be almost another
hundred more. Repeating this sequence doesn't produced any after the
second check, so it must be a size cap thing.
Also I've been munging the addy for the last two days so it's running on
what it got before.
