I'm getting my Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop's hard drive and motherboard
replaced today by a Dell Tech. Running XP Pro SP1/Office 2003. I have a
SimpleTech External HD that I'm going to copy files over to from my old
laptop HD onto the new HD after it's replaced. My old HD is physically
failing (scraping)...there's no viruses or spyware. I do not use
Outlook/PSTs. Only Word, Powerpoint, & Excel. I have the Windows XP Pro
installer CD. What OS files do you recommend that I transfer from my OLD
WinXP OS onto the new WinXP OS hard drive?

Zero. You'll be doing a clean install - why would you want to save old
operating system files? Am I missing something here?

You're right on. I just realized that I just need to make a screenshot of the
extracurricular/non-Microsoft applications and install them on the new OS.
I've had the computer for three years. Does this sound right, Ted?

I guess I'll use FAST and transfer things that way. I keep thinking I'll
forget something.
