i just installed a new motherboard and windows XP wont
start propperly now? any help?

Go to http://support.microsoft.com/ and do a search on "in-place upgrade"
for Windows XP. I think it is method 2 that works best.

You replaced the brain of your system so why would you expect it to start
running, talking, and constrict its anus muscle when needed? You created a
baby that doesn't know anything about its components and peripherals. So
you'll have to teach it how to use all that new stuff. You'll have to do a
repair (in-place upgrade) so Windows XP can detect all the new stuff you
changed.

The repair install that is mentioned in the other replies will only work if
you have the retail copy of XP. If you have an OEM version of XP, like
Dell, Gateway, Compq, etc, then repair will not likely be an option. If
that is the case, buy a retail copy of XP, which cost about $200 for the
home edition. However, if you happen to own a license (i.e., CDROM with
key) for win 98 or ME or 2000, you could buy the cheaper upgrade for the
home edition. The upgrade version of XP will ask you to insert the CDROM
for the older version, as proof you own it. Note that DOS, win3.1, win95,
and NT doe NOT qualify for an upgrade to XP.

Greetings --

Normally, and assuming either a retail license or a generic
(non-branded) OEM license, unless the new motherboard is virtually
identical to the old one (same chipset, same IDE controllers, same
BIOS version, etc.), you'll need to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place
upgrade) installation, at the very least:

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows XP

As always when undertaking such a significant change, back up any
important data before starting.
