Hi,

We have 2 W2K DC's on old hardware. Which are also DNS and WINS server.
Both should be replaced by new hardware, but the name and Ip-address should
be kept.
What would be the best way to do this?

Thx
Kris

Kris-

I'd dcpromo them down one at a time, backup any non AD integrated DNS zones
(and the registry keys for the zones) as well as the WINS database.

Build the new box, dcpromo it up, replicate WINS from the other partner, and
load in any non AD integrated DNS zones. This is a task easily accomplished
in a few hours especially if you've got the new hardware ready to go.

So in short
1) make sure FSMO roles are on server2.
2) dcpromo down server1 + power down
3) bring NEW server1 into network with same ip / name as server1
4) dcpromo up
5) install DNS + WINS + synchronize

Same procedure to replace server2.

Thx
Kris
