You can certainly install the old hard drive as a slave drive, but don't
expect the programs to work..... they won't have the correct registry
entries in XP for them to know how to work.
You can reinstall the programs (doing a custom installation to the d: drive
or whatever you call the drive) and get them to put their registry entries
into XP.
You should be able to access the data (docs, music files etc) without any
problem... just remember to change the jumper at the rear of the drive to be
a slave drive and assign it a drive letter and it should then appear in
Windows Explorer.
Once the BIOS sees the new (or rather old!) drive, boot into WindowsXP,
right click on My Computer and select Manage. On the following screen,
click on Disk Management. The new (old) drive should appear on the right
hand side of the screen and you can assign it a drive letter from here.
