Is there any indication what the parameters for the swap file size should be
in relation to the amount of available RAM?

Personally I start with about 120% of the available RAM and I set the min
and max size to the same value.

Question: I have three internal, equally sized SCSI hard drives - one

bootable "C" root drive for my W2K OS, and the others are for backups
and such.

TM - put the pagefile on the most idle drive on the most idle
controller. It helps if it's a fast drive. MS recommends about twice
RAMsize, and feel your way from there (nature of apps etc. are factors).
Set min and max the same to avoid pagefile fragmentation (the full
pagefile space is permanently allocated.)
 
While we are on this subject, is there any performance effect from changing
the maximum registry size - making it bigger or smaller? And also, do any of
you guys run this setting (VM @ 2.5 x RAM) for digital video transfer on IDE
systems? Most of the DV gurus seem to suggest very low (but identical)
min/max VM settings - like same as RAM. But I find this makes other uses of
the machine a bit sluggish.

I have my 2 HD's on the same controller. (and 2 DVD devices on the other
controller).
Still best to put the swap file on D:?

My DVD-burner IS slave (of the DVD-ROM on sec. IDE).
So you think I should change the config below? People had told me to put the
HD's on one port...
