Swap A Sata disk with XP pro into another similar machine

I installed a copy of WinXp on a Sata disk. Next thing I wanted to try
is to put that disk into another similar machine with the same specs.
(Both are Dell Optiplex 740).

But wen I do this, XP starts booting, but fails and does not pass the
splashscreen and reboots. (loop)

I know on IDE disks, you could change the drivers of the IDE
connectors to default and it would work. Is there a similar trick for
Sata disks?

Any ideas would be great,

A repair installation of win usually works, but it maybe that the winxp
installation is locked to the origonal sys?

Even with the same model number,98% of the time a new clean xp installation
is required,a repair wont work...

Not true at all, if you know what your doing it is likely you can do a swap
to any motherboard without even having to do a repair install.

Not completely true! Though you can "usually" repair install a XP if
the hardware is 97% the same (I never seen 2 PCs that were 100% the
same) what cause the "most" problems are the additional enhanced
drivers that may be installed after the XP is installed.

Repair re-installs work "best" (to my knowledge) if you only have the
"plain" drivers that ship with XP or install with <F6> during setup.

However, nothing is ever guarrantied with Microsoft Windows.

Still repeating that old lie, eh?
