On my system SVCHOST occasionally takes up 98 and 99% CPU.
What could be causing this? To retify I have to reboot,
then the system is fine for a period of time.
.
I know this isn't much help to you but a .dll on a
could be corrupt. Svchost.exe is a generic host process
name for services that are run from dynamic-link
libraries (DLLs). At startup, Svchost.exe checks the
services portion of the registry to construct a list of
services that it needs to load. There can be multiple
instances of Svchost.exe running at the same time.
Here is one troubleshooting exercise for this type of
problem that is time consuming but gets good results.
First I would try and see If I could spot what it is or
when it is that I just did or am doing when CPU goes to
99%. I.E - Starting Media player, that type a thing,Or
for a fast check if you have an Antivirus Program, turn
it off and see if the CPU goes 99% like it usually does
or not. Of course you don't want to run a long time like
this but while you are troubleshooting ok. Next is to
type ,MSConfig, in the, Run, on the Start menu and select
the Start up Tab on the Utility and 'Disable
all'.Reboot.Play around abit making note of the CPU's
behavior. Enable 'one' back on, Reboot. Make note of CPU,
use Computer for abit as long as you normally do when it
goes 99%. If it's OK,Enable one more on "Startup" Tab,
Reboot . You must reboot after each one you Enabled. Note
the CPU behavior at each step, do a few things you are
usually doing when it goes to 99%. If it does not go up
high, good check on another reboot you get the idea.It
does take awhile to do but the rewards can make it well
worth the time.
