I'm starting to get sick and tired of how little attention Microsoft is
giving to the huge host of people who are having problems with the svchost
process. Quite frankly it's appalling!

Like everyone else here svchost burns up my cpu power and won't stop until I
delete the process, and that when it kills off all my sound drivers and
sometimes my internet connection and I only get everything back by restarting
and on some occasions having to reinstall the bloody drivers!

I restarted my computer, the moment I logged on svchost acted up so I was
able to get the command line of it

"C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs"

I had the same problem. I followed PA Bear’s advice and contacted Microsoft
explaining exactly what the problem was. Some one was appointed to look
after my problem. I received two programs from Microsoft. The first one did
not work but the second did and solved the problem. It even had a password.
All replies came each time in less than 24 hours. Here are the addresses. I
could not have had for a better service.

It worked for me I hope it does for you.

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)? Were any of these applications running when you installed SP3?

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for
Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3), until 14 Apr-09. Chat and
e-mail support is available only in the United States and Canada.

For starters only a idiot would put their system updates on manual, it's
pathetic, slow and time consuming. And I already have Process Explorer and
Auto-update has nothing to do with making svchost burn CPU.

If there is a SP3, I haven't heard of it, otherwise you're just spouting
utter crap in a space where someone else could post actually helpful
information, go troll someone else's website.

When you post on a message bard, you're supposed to be on topic, I don't
really care if someone is posting links and they could be dangerous, for all
I care your links could be just as bad.

The post does not refer to the original problem, however I can address some
"points":

"svchost" per-se does not "burn" CPU - it is a "Host" utilized by Windows to
contain/run services and applications - diagnosis involves finding the
specific culprit - usually beginning with Process Explorer (Check
Sysinternals Microsoft site for supplemental aids to Explorer).

Regarding "...If there is a SP3, I haven't heard of it...." - you gotta be
one of the ten who have not. Notice the many references to SP3 in the
newsgroup?

Okay, so I'll be clear, I'm a heavy gamer and svchost is an annoying pest I
want fixed or removed. Understand? It's a bloody pest which annoys me when it
spikes up. And it will spike up at any time, when the computer is loading,
while I'm playing a game, when I'm browsing the internet and even when I'm
not at the computer, I just want it fixed so I can get on with my stuff
without problems, and svchost makes me so angry when it spikes up if it were
a person I would beat the git to death with a meat tenderiser. So yeah,
that's how it is right now.

As for "Notice the many references to SP3 in the newsgroup?" What newsgroup?
I let the computers auto-updater's take care of everything so I find looking
for things myself a frivolous waste of time unless it's a fun mod pack for
one of my games.

Sorry if I sound so aggravating through my way of typing, just got up.

Neco - Same newsgroup in which your post appears:
microsoft.pulic.windowsxp.help and support also
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general.

As for svchost - it cannot be removed - as I mentioned previouisly it acts
as a "container" - check the following for a blog regarding "fixing"
svchost.
