svchost.exe uses large amounts of memory

when I connect to the internet or boot up the pc, svchost.exe uses high
amount of page file usage causing the pc to hang even when I use firefox.
Is there a solution without upgrading ram or processor.
I'm using amd sempron 2800+ 1.8 ghz
256 ram
deactivated almost every program I dont need.

a quick trick that may
or may not resolve it
is to located the svchost.exe
file in your system folder
and delete it.

windows will rebuild it
automatically and maybe
correct the incidental corruption
with that file.
