svchost.exe keeps terminating while working. then the rpc
server, whatever that is, is unavailable. when this
svchost terminates, I cannot access find file and other
windows operations. Should I download the service pack 4,
upgrade to windows XP or just shoot the damn computer once
and for all.

Well, your not the only one haveing problems with
svchost.exe!!! except mine doesnt terminate, it just makes
my computer very iffy as to what pages it loads, and i
cant copy something from the internet and paste it in
microsoft word. I have no idea what to do. i have a virus
program on my computer and it said that i dont have a
virus, so i dont know what it could be. Right now im
opting to shoot the computer!

You both have the blaster worm. Update your anti-virus software and make
sure it runs constantly. Get a firewall. www.zonelabs.com has a free one
that does a more than adequate job. and get rid of msblast.exe from your
computer.

try the follow command from a CMD prompt

netstat -an | findstr 135

If you see alot of connections going to internet IP addresses
then it's a good chance you have the virus/worm.

although the removal tool link is incorrect ... it should be
