svchost.exe keeps turning off

This past week svchost.exe keeps shutting down on my pc (win2000). A pop-up
window appears saying that it has shut down and needs to restart (something
like that). Why does it do that? I find the exe in WinNT/system32 and open
it up, but nothing happens, should something happen?

All I know is that I can't disconnect from the internet and I can't copy and
paste things from program to another.

I have updated my virus scan. I even downloaded and ran the fixblast.exe and
reported, "W32.Blaster.Worm has not been found on your computer."

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Gerard

Have you applied the critical Update of MS 03-26 Security Bulletin?

If not, then download the Patch and apply it manually. Get it from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...46-F541-4C15-8C9F-220354449117&displaylang=en

and then restart.
