I have also started to to receive the Windows error
everytime an external internet application tries to invoke
the svchost.exe process. I have IE6 SP1 and Windows 2000
5.0 SP1 loaded, but downloaded some Windows updates only
last week. The Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 319161
makes reference to a Novell Groupwise "Gwtps1.dll" which I
do not have installed on my computer, so I am not sure
whether the registry fix described in this article applies.
Does anybody from Microsoft have a clue as to what is
causing this problem?

WELCOME TO MSFT WINDOWS NIGHTMARE!!!!

I am in exactly your same boat....I started getting
the "svchost.exe" error message after I installed MSN
Messanger #6. I went also into the MSN KB Article # 319161
and realized as well that I did not have the Novell .dll
they mentioned.

So I made the grave mistake of follwing the 319161
instructions and guess what? Yes, I goofed it and my PC
crashed as I messed the "location" changes at "regedit" .
Now I am trying to reconfigure this stuff..messy.

So I never found our whether 319161 was going to fix this.

My question now is how do i fix this? I can only access
Windows 2000 in "safe" mode..and i have to fix the
registry, obviously I did not back up the original....any
clues on what to do to fix this?
