SGIC Postmaster

I've seen the other posts about svchost, but they don't seem to apply here.

I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled W2K. Everything seemed to go
well until I installed SP3 (Required to install the high speed Internet
software.) After that this message began appearing at seemingly random times
after the connection to the Internet was made:

"Svchost.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows..."

Windows update also does not allow downloads. As soon as the Install button
is pressed, an error occurs saying the download was not successful.

The Blaster virus does not appear to be on the machine.

Any help would be appreciated.

you must apply microsoft patch for blaster or as soon as
you connect to internet, you will get. once you apply
patch, you will be ok.

Hi Postmaster

Most likely, you are infected with the MS Blaster Worm.

Did you perform the following steps?

First, install the Security Patch which is available here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...46-F541-4C15-8C9F-220354449117&displaylang=en

After having verified that the Patch is installed, scan your System with
your AV Program for the Worm (be sure to have the latest Virus definitions
loaded). Once the Worm is eliminated, restart your System and everything
should be running fine again.

A free W32.Blaster.Worm Removal Tool can be downloaded here:

http://www.symantec.ca/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.removal.tool.html

best, go to: http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp

Hope this helps. Regards,

Fabio
