After reinstalling WINXP, because of the SP1 Pack. I'm
unable to browse the web. My DSL is connected, however,
no web page. I look at the Task Manager and find that
the SVCHOST for Local Service is using more than normal
resources which leads me to believe it's hanging as my
Explorer Task bar is hanging too. Once I end the SVC
HOST Process, my explorer bar cease to hang, but I'm
still unable to browse the web, (page no available)
error. I'm connected but unable to view webpages. Can
someone point me in the right direction..thanks in advance

I can't solve the problem because I've come to this web page looking for answers for the same problem. All the problems are the same, except that I had not installed anything and I have a cable connection, but the internet stopped working midday so I restarted my computer. Then I still got no responce from the internet and just like Kevin my task bar was not working and my task manager showed that the svchost which is running my local service was aquiring resources at a non-stop pace. I let it run one day and it was using over 600,000 when I checked it and finally ended the process. I had also tried to repair the connection to the internet the first time it started but it wouldn't purge the DNS which I ended up doing manually. With still no change. I've reinstalled windows and that hasn't helped at all. I don't really want to format the drive so if anyone can help that would be much appreciated
