Hello folks,
I had a new IBM-HDD 60 GB. Once in a while I heard an unknown sound from it.
Almost a whistle blow (only two seconds)
Then this sound occured more often. At the end the HDD broke down. Whenever
I tried booting the computer there
was only a constant repetition of this sound and my system wasn't able to
boot. It was only a year old.
I had to replace the HDD and install my system completely new. It was a
nightmare because many of my data were gone.
Now I have two new HDDs in my computer one from IBM (80 GB) and one from
Samsung (80 GB).
Two to be able to mirror my bootable HDD.
Now my problem: From time to time I hear the very same sound from one of my
HDDs.
At the moment I can't notice an increase in frequency. But my heartbeat is
increasing whenever this sound occures.
This is a very worrisome noise. Is this noise normal? Have you ever heard
such a sound?
many thanks for your help!
