tyseterday morning I booted (XP Pro), and tried to go on the Net. I
clicked my dial-up icon, and nothing happened; I quickly discovered a) the my
short-cut had nowhere to go and b) my network connection icons (2) were
gone!

Weird, very weird, but no big deal. I'll just set up a new one. So I fire
up the New Connection Wizard, BUT when I get to the third page, after
electing 'Set up my connection manually' I find to my consternation that the
radio button for 'Connect using a dial-up modem' is greyed out - So I'm
stuck.

Otherwise, the system seems to be functionning normally

It looks very suspicious to me as the day before, everything was normal, on
and off the Net.

I'm using an older slower XP Home system to do this but all my current stuff
is on the other system, and I'm nervous to use.

Can anybody help me here?

Dial-up? Maybe your phone is out of order.

Hi Rick

Might be worth checking that your modem is still responding, go to start,
control panel and choose phone and modem options, click on the second tab
labelled modem and highlight your modem which should appear in the list (if
nothing is there then this is your problem, although doesn't explain why the
dial-up connections should vanish) click on properties, diagnostics and then
click query modem to see if the modem it's self responds if it does not then
troubleshoot the modem, if it's an external one make sure it is switched on!

The only other suggestion that I can make is that you may have logged on to
your company with a different user account, does everything else appear
normal ?
