Suspend causes printer problems

Every time my computer goes into suspend mode (Windows XP
Home) and then comes out, the printer will only print
garbage. The computer must be rebooted to bring back
normal printer function.

The computer is HP A250Y and the printer is NEC
Superscript 860 (using windows provided driver).

Any ideas how to fix it?

Is this connected over USB? Check the computer BIOS setting for the power
management of the device the printer is connected to. I'd set this so that
the power state is always on (no power shutdown on device) even when the
computer goes to a low power state.
