Anyone had any probs installing Linux on a box with a p4p800 del mobo
installed ??

Mine just cant seem to get passed the probing hardware bit and it stumbles
over the sata drive.

I dual boot windows and linux. I have tried several distributions of linux
on this system which has the same mobo as yours.

The one I had most success with is archlinux, its a text install but it
comes with a 2.6 Kernel. I believe suse is running 2.6. However the
hardware detect stuff has been a nightmare with this board.

I have success installing the following linux distros:

MEPIS
Archlinux
Peanut (after many attempts)
Knoppix 3.4 make sure you tell knoppix that you are not running smp

Forget about running Fedora Core Linux on the P4P800 series according to
RedHat.

I have the same problem with Suse 9.0 professional on my P4C800-Deluxe mobo.
Changing the BIOS IDE-settings from 'Enhanced' to 'compatible' solved my
problem. In the process, you loose 1 IDE connector ! ;-(

SATA was added in later releases of the 2.4 kernel depends what kernel you
are using but 2.6 definitely supports SATA in enhanced mode. Like the other
poster said FC2 steer clear it cannot handle P4P board. Unless they have
patched it now.

For me I like arch it runs fine on this board.
