I have the sus server configured.

What is the next steps on getting the windows 2000 clients with sp4 to point
to this server

Thanks

Follow the step-by-step instructions in the SUS deployment guide to
configure a GPO to control the Windows Update function. This will allow you
to control when and how your clients manage their updates.

Frank,

As Ryan suggested, follow the steps in the Deployment Guide. It pretty much
answers all of your questions.

However, to quickly give you the 'Big Picture':

You will need to move the computer account objects that you want to be
affected by this Group Policy in an OU and then create the GPO and link it
to that OU. The computers should be restarted after this has been
implemented. How things work depends on how you have set things up. I
generally like to use Option 4. I also like to set up the GPO so that users
can no longer go to http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com and are restricted
to your SUS Server. Makes for a more controlled environment.

There is also a SUS newsgroup. You might try there.

Hi,

1> You need to download the wuau.adm file from the SUS website IF you
are running Windows 2000 Servers. If you are running Windows 2003 or
the new Windows XP SP2 adm’s then you are fine.

2> Create a Computer OU and move all the computers into it.

3> Create a Group Policy for the Computers.

4> Under Computer Configuration- Admin Templates-Windows Components -
Windows Update configure the "Configure Automatic Updates" AND
"Specifiy Intranet Microsoft Update Service Location". Point the
second to your sus server.

Cheers,

Lara
