You can use a SUS server but you will lose the flexibility of configuring it via
Group Policy for client configuration. You can configure the registry of each client
computer with the same settings that they would receive from Group Policy. I guess I
would also wonder what is holding you back from upgrading to a W2K domain, but you
probably have a good reason. Since SUS is free. You could try installing it on one
server that will need to run IIS and ideally is not used for IIS for anything else,
and configure a few computers to see how it works out. If you do install it on a
server running IIS for another reason beware that SUS runs the IIS Lockdown tool
during installation so be sure to back that server up first including the System
State and IIS configuration via the IIS management console. There is a very active
SUS newsgroup [Microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs] where you will get very good
guidance as I am sure you are not the first to try this. --- Steve

Wondering about setting up some sort of patch management solution. I have been
reading about the free SUS solution. My question is that I run a NT4.0 domain with
several Win200 servers and about 125 client computers running Win2000 and Win XP Pro.
Can I add a SUS server to my domain or does this solution only work in an Active
Directory enviroment?
