Suppress Pivot table sub-totals when using "Sum of" XL2000

Hi,

The Excel pivot table gives me almost all I want to organise some
data.

However, I get "subtotals" for every instance of a particular "row
category". So if the category is "Green" and there are three instances
of this in original data, pivot will sub-total these before listing
the rows of category "RED". I only want totals for the whole table,
not sub-totals "within" the table.

Can I control this behaviour in the pivot table? Currently I do
some "manual post-processing" using filters - but it is not dynamic
and if the input data changes I have to copy the data out of the pivot
again. Clumsy

I have looked in the Mr. Excel Web site and haven't found an
entry that matches this - but there may be one there.

Thanks

Clive

In the pivot table itself,
select a cell containing the green category label.

Right click on it and select Field, then under subtotals, select none.

Clive,

I'm not sure I'm reading you right. If you don't want any sub-totals, only
totals, then a formula seems indicated instead of a pivot table. The
strength of a pivot table is the grouping and the totals of those groups. A
formula need not be refreshed, as does a pivot table when the data changes.

Eh?
