I have a Lexmark Z52 printer and the custom Lexmark drive has a feature to
do two-sided printing. The standard XP drive is different and has fewer
options/features. When manually installing the Lexmark drive, XP says that
it is not a XP signed (or something similar). Lexmark says ignore this as
the driver has been fully tested.

Even though I have been able to install and use the Lexmark drive, XP does
not like this and installs its own driver, so I have two printers in the
printer list. Even if I delete it, XP keeps reinstalling it.

How can I make XP accept the Lexmark driver, or disable the search and
install process?

You cannot suppress this as it is a Plug and Play issue. I would try
to start over: disconnect the printer and remove all Lexmark stuff
from the Registry after you have removed the printers from the Control
Panel > Printers and Faxes.
Re-connect the printer and start Windows. Follow the install
instructions that come with the printer. If the same problem occurs
you may want to check for further help at www.lexmark.com.
