When I installed the VS.Net with .Net Framework 2.0, I was informed that I
must have XP with SP 2. Is this a requirement of the framework or of
VS.Net? Will I be able to install and run developed applications using XP
SP1?

TIA

Nope, v2.0 will need XP SP2.

1Performance has not been tuned for minimum system configuration. Increasing
your RAM above the recommended system configuration will increase your
performance, specifically when running multiple applications, working with
large projects, or doing enterprise-level development.

2When you start the Visual Studio installer, the default installation
location is your system drive, which is the drive that boots your system.
However, you can install the application on any drive. Regardless of the
application's location, the installation process installs some files on your
system drive. Consequently, ensure that the above amount of space is
available on your system drive regardless of the application's location, and
ensure that additional space, as listed above, is available on the drive on
which you install the application.

Performance Tips
Listed below are some ways to help improve the overall performance of this
product on your computer.

General tips:

a.. Turn off virus checking on devenv.exe.

b.. Defragment your hard drive after installing the product.

c.. Check the recommended RAM and processor requirements for the edition
you have installed, and consider upgrading your memory or disk speed.

While you have the integrated development environment (IDE) open:

a.. Before you shut down your computer, close any tool windows that you do
not use at start up to increase your start up speed the next time you
launch.

b.. Do not choose to display the Properties window on start up of the IDE.
The Properties window displays automatically when you open a solution.

The OP's question was about VS2005 & Windows XP SP1, and the answer is no,
you need SP2.

Willy.

Michael and Willy,

Thanks for your responses. Just to make sure we're all on the same page,
I'm aware that XP SP2 is required to run VS 2005. This is a development
environment question that I'm not really concerned about. My question is
aimed at deploying a .Net application on a variety of Win OSs. We are
currently debating which .Net framework we should use since 2.0 has some
capabilities that we would like to use. As such, my questions is focused on
the minimum OS and OS service packs requirements for the 2.0 version of the
framework not on the VS 2005.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Brad
