We have Windows XP and Microsoft Office running on it. We
had a dial-up connection to the internet. We decided to
change to Broadband with our telephone provider. We tried
to install the software provided but kept getting stuck at
a recurring error message. This was never resolved and we
got so fed up of waiting that we went back to dial-up, and
installed an upgraded version of the original dial-up
software that we had. After a few problems, we cannot get
connected to the internet although it dials & connects to
the modem fine, and brings up the home page for the ISP.
However, towards the end of the fiasco with Broadband we
were told to install a virus update patch against Worm
Blaster (or whatever it's called) before we would get
seen. Some time after that, and prior to the problems
connecting to the internet again, on starting up one day
we got an error report and message generated by
Microsoft. We cannot send it because we need to be online
to do so - it is an internet error form. But it may well
be the same error that is preventing us from getting
online in the first place. We will be contacting
Technical Support, but am now so sick of talking to PC
support people who do not have the time to give you the
time of day and resolve nothing, that if anybody has any
bright ideas to resolve this we would be grateful. I have
the error signature and the files involved. Disturbed
that a physical memory dump was involved. What the hell
caused that? Is it due to the patch we were sent through
to download? Is this stopping us from getting online to
the internet (yes, the ISP has tried changing all of the
settings that could well possibly have been affected -
C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini101803.6.dmp, and C:\DOCUME~1
\ALEX\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml

You should really be looking at configuring a connection yourself. Simply
use the wizard under New Connection (same place your dial up connection is
listed), create a new dial up to the internet and make sure you select your
connection type as ADSL. You only need your ADSL username & password.

Have you tried system restore?.Can you give details of
the error?(goto:- Start menu-Control Panel(switch to
classic view)-Administrative tools-Event Viewer-
Applications, and have a look for the error and post the
details here.
