Hi,
I use superscript to indicate end notes in my document. I have the
spell-check set to have one space between a full-stop (period) at the end of
sentence and new sentence. I

If I set the superscript number just outside the period of my sentence
without a space between it and the period, my spell-check stops on each one.
If I add a space after the period before the superscript number, then
another space between superscript and new sentence it is ok but the
superscript looks like it is hanging in space.

Stupid question I guess, but is there a rule?
Thanks, Patti

Hi Patti,
I would think that a space between period and endnote reference number is
incorrect, though I've never heard of a rule and did not bother to look it
up, since using Word's automatic endnote feature would solve your problem.
Then Word will recognize that the number at the end of the sentence is not
part of the regular text.

Is there a reason you aren't using the automatic feature? Generally it makes
life far easier. Although the menu only says Insert | Footnote, you can
change it to Endnote very easily.

Hi Dayo Mitchell,
Thanks for reply. If I remember right, I started using the superscript
number to denote a list of sources for my story. When I used the automatic
reference number, everytime I used the same source for a different
situatuation or person, it was repeated on the list so I was getting
multiple entries of the same source.

I think you are right about it not being correct to put a period between the
end of the sentence and superscript, but as I said the spell check thinks it
is a mistake if I don't put it in.
Thanks for help.
Patti

When you want to repeat the same source, you can insert a cross-reference to
the number of an existing footnote.
