A friend has some information on uninstalling MS JAVA and has downloaded the
SUN JAVA installation program.
She wants to know if this is a good thing to do?

What are the pro's and con's of this action.

Apparently MS JAVA doesn't support some java functions... although I have never had an issue with it. I personally don't see the need to install the SUN JAVA on any computer I own. Although it is a lot easier to get the SUN JAVA nowadays since MS stopped distributing the MS JAVA package.

I am no expert but, from what I've read on the NG's, MSVM causes fewer
problems than Sun JAVA. I found a download for MSVM and loaded it, then ran
MS updates and took the security update from them.

FWIW, JAX

To comply with an an antitrust case, MS have been forced to stop supporting
Java later this year. Thus, it would be a good idea to use Sun Java as
developers will be concentrating on that instead. IMO, MS's virutal machine
is much better (sun's has an ugly app that loads every time an applet
starts). Just leave MS's java and install suns. it will automatically take
over.
