I am trying to set up a spread sheet where each element in a row has four
different columns of data. At the end of the row I need to do various
calculations based on the sum of each column for each element.

BX5 = C5+G5+K5+O5+etc.
BY5 = D5+I5+L5+P5,+etc

I've seen several similar calculations using data in column, but not in rows
and I have not been able to translate that info into rows.

Try this:

=SUMPRODUCT(--(MOD(COLUMN(C5:AA5)-COLUMN(C5),4)=0),C5:AA5)

Adjust for the correct end of the range.

Thanks. I see what I was doing wrong in my translation from rows to columns.
I was not being specific enough about the cells to calculate.
