I'd like to be able to use PowerPoint to create presentations that can be
played on standard DVD players. DVD menus can be very complex, and should be
able to do much of what PowerPoint can do.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]
[TOP ISSUE - Are you having difficulty opening presentations in PowerPoint
that you just created (you can save, but not open)? -

Hello,

If it is important to you (or to anyone else reading this message) that
PowerPoint have the ability save presentations directly to DVD-Video (even
with unavoidable loss of some interactivity capabilities), or if there are
specific features of PowerPoint slide show distribution that you would like
to see (which might eliminate the need to save presentations as DVD-Video),
don't forget to send your feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft
at:

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft.

* Is there some problem with PowerPoint's current output options for which
you believe DVD-Video output is the solution/workaround?
* You want to distribute/show your presentation on DVD-Players (even though
there will be loss of functionality) because....<why>?
* Other reasons?

It's VERY important that, for EACH wish, you describe in detail, WHY it is
important TO YOU that your product suggestion be implemented. A good wish
submssion includes WHAT scenario, work-flow, or end-result is blocked by
not having a specific feature, HOW MUCH time and effort ($$$) is spent
working around a specific limitation of the current product, etc. Remember
that Microsoft receives THOUSANDS of product suggestions every day and we
read each one but, in any given product development cycle, there are ONLY
sufficient resources to address the ones that are MOST IMPORTANT to our
customers so take the extra time to state your case as CLEARLY and
COMPLETELY as possible so that we can FEEL YOUR PAIN.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).

Ha...join the queue...
Although much of PowerPoint's functionality and potential image quality
would be lost or seriously downgraded.

I read recently that Microsoft is somehow involved with the design process
of the next generation DVD player for HDTV. Why not add a PowerPoint player
to every HDTV DVD player produced?

Are there any third party solutions for creating DVD menus with PowerPoint?
I thought about writing my own utility, but the PowerPoint file specs aren't
available.

My reasons for wanting the ability to save to DVD is DVD players's are
everywhere. You can pick up a DVD player for as little as $25 on sale. PC's
are much more expensive.

I'd love to see a PowerPoint player for the XBOX.

Not specifically menus but a few third party products are emerging that
supposedly convert PowerPoint to DVD. None that I've seen do a reliable
high quality job every time (and yes that includes PowerPoint2DVD if the
spammers are lurking).
I'm sure when bugs etc. have been ironed out there will be good products.

There are so many limitations that cannot be overcome with current video
media that any product or DVD standard AVI/MPEG2 output from PowerPoint will
be far from perfect. I share your interest in Microsoft's involvement with
the HDTV generation DVD players but I think that's just to ensure Windows
Media is a playable format.
