There is a minor problem in Photo Story 3 with regards to the "Remove black
borders" and cropping feature. It appears that after using the "Remove black
borders" feature, Photo Story automatically crops a section of the photo to
make it display fully in the 4:3 aspect ratio. However, since the feature
does not always crop the desired section of the photo, users would want to
move the cropping area. This is where the problem lies.
The "Remove black borders" feature crops the photo to best fit (no black
borders at all). After the user moves the crop area selection "rectangle" to
the desired spot (with perfect horizontal or vertical cursor motion), the
result preview on the right displays the photo with a thin black border.
This problem reproduces regardless of the subject's image size. Although the
black border does not seem to appear in the final photo story, the preview
does confuse the user into believe they need to further crop slightly just
to make sure no black borders exist.
In my opinion, the crop feature should include a "snap to edge" or "best
fit" feature to assist in avoiding black borders being introduced. In
addition, the "Remove black borders" feature, also the same crop feature
with the context to remove black borders, should include an option to lock
the canvas "rectangle" movement horizontally or vertically. These convenient
additions should improve the user experience.
