Suffix Search List not working

The DHCP server hands out 3 suffixes to our workstations..
ie...
first.domain.com
second.domain2.com
domain.com

When doing an nslookup, it will not search the list.. it
will look at the first entry in the list and if it's not
there will return an error. However if I go into DNS
properties and put in the exact same search list manually,
it will look up any address in any of the domains listed.

Anyone know why this might be happening?

Thanks much.

DHCP won't hand out DNS suffix searchlists, just a primary DNS suffix.

See 275553 How to Configure a Domain Suffix Search List on the Domain Name

and if you have Windows Server 2003:
