I used to be able to input Japanese in text book on a web, such as Google or
other search engine site. Then, This function suddenly stopped. I am no
longer able to type Japanese on Internet Explorer. The only thing I can is
type on Google Toolbar, then copy and paste in the text box. I cannot input
any Japanese character in Web Mail. I found other experiencing the same
problem, but apparently they haven't found the solution.
With other application, I can type Japanese. Assumingly I successfully
installed East Asian Support of WinXP Home. Therefore, the problem is
Internet Explorer 6 specific.
Somebody help me!

Is this windows XP applied Service Pack?
Is this Windows XP are US English Version?
did you install anythig befor it happens?
do you installed any anti-virus & anti-Spyware sofuware?

Check Regional and Language Options > Language > Detailes in Text services and input language > Advanced > System Configuration

If checked mark on Turn off advanced text services, remove it.
If unchecked Extended support of advanced text services to all programs, place check mark it.

here is info for Windows 2000, but sometime useful on Windows XP.

Thank you for your response.

First, I respond to your questions:
I am using Windows XP Home edition sp2 in US English.
I do not remember when this problem started exactly. I cannot answer the
question if I installed anything immediately before the problem happened.
I am using Norton Anti-Virus, which I installed far before the problem
started, and some Anti-Spyware's, such as Anti-AdWare SE Personal, Spyware
Doctor and Yahoo AntiSpy, but I do not think the problem is associated with
Anti-Spyware's.

Second, Window XP's setting is confirmed to be fine, as you suggested. As a
matter of fact, I am able to input Japanese characters in applications other
than IE6.0.

Third, I checked WIN2000 reference you suggested. But I do not have IME
installed other than that Windows XP supports. I only have MS OFFICE 97.

I checked the version of IME installed:
Microsoft IME standard 2002 (8.1.4203.0) in C:\WINDOWS\IME\IMJP8_1\

This may help you to identify the problem. When the problem started, even
Google Toolbar stopped to accept Japanese inputs. I uninstall it, removed the
registry associated with this and installed it again. Then I can input
Japanese characters in
"Search box", though I cannot switch input language using Hot Key, which I
can use for other applications.

Thank you for trying to figure out a solution. However, I do not think these
links help. I do not have Advanced Text Service installed/enabled. I do not
find a corresponding tag assisgned for this service.

My problem is observed specifically with Internet Explorer 6 only. Other
applications are all fine. No problem with Windows XP at least apparently. If
any, probably IE's registry value has been changed at updating, or other
operations.

During checking if your suggestions work, language bar was gone. Even the
activation option for the bar was invalidated. Although I restored the system
to a backup point, this may indicate how subtle, fragile the sytem is. It
sometimes runs weird. In the past, the toolbar menu, which is prompted by
right-clicking over the task bar area, I found several "language bar"s.
Unchecked redundant ones and reboot PC was the way I removed these. This may
have killed a good one.

Can anyone else help me out?
This problem is only observed with Internet Explorer. Other Window
application works fine.
