Suddenly having connectivity issues after five months of no proble

For the last two days, I get timeout errors at each send/receive process. It
says the POP3 server failed to respond within 60 seconds. Every 5-6
send/receive attempts, it usually connnects and downloads/uploads all new
mail.

I use Gmail and checked with them to see if there was any known problems on
their end. There were none according to them and I can login to my Gmail
account directly with no problem.

What could be causing the problem with Windows Mail erroring out? Any ideas
or suggestions to troubleshoot this would be appreciated.

I am running Trend Micro PC-cillin antivirus and firewall. It is set to scan
emails but it has been for the past five months with no issue. It scans both
outgoing and incoming messages, zip files up to one layer of compression and
only email messages 3MB or smaller.

I suppose I could disable the mail protection for a few minutes to see if
that resolves the problem. I just wonder why it's presenting itself now all
of a sudden. I loaded my 2003 Office suite on my machine last week. Maybe
this is the push I need to get Outlook 2003 set up.

Which antivirus program are you running? Is it configured to
scan emails?

It won't hurt you to disable email scanning for the duration of a test.
Antivirus mail scanning can corrupt mail accounts after a period of time.

Email scanning provides no added protection beyond what the resident scan
does. It was "invented" by Norton's marketing department who insisted on
it. Everyone else followed suit.
