Hi All,

I have this problem for the past three months or so. My computer
suddenly switches off and then reboots. There seems to be no problem
with the operating system. I am using Slackware GNU/Linux 11.0 on an
AMD CPU (the exact model I need to look it up).

I mainly suspect the CPU heat to be the problem. To alleviate this
problem I have removed the casing provided (so that the CPU and
motherboard are directly exposed to the atmosphere). Even then this
problem is not going away.

Can anybody suggest me the things that I can do to sort this out?

Thank you.

Rgds,
anna

Power supply.

Reboots can be caused by processor overheating, bad memory, bad power supply, even a bad motherboard. Removing case panels can cause the motherboard and disk drives to run hotter because the case panels must be on for the exhaust fans to draw air through the case. Use memtest86 to test memory; it should be on some of your Linux CDs (Ubuntu, PCLinuxOS, etc.).

A customer suffered the same symptoms and the problem was a faulty AC plug.

Get some temperature monitoring software and confirm if heat is your
problem. If the processor really is too hot (google for operating temps for
your CPU), then try blowing all the clogged dust out of the heatsink.
