subwebs help

Hi,

I have noticed a lot of times subwebs mentioned, especially around
discussion boards on websites. How do you create a subweb? and is it
best to use for the Discussion Web Wizard in FP 2002.

Cheers

In FP, you need to edit the website on line (instead of opening your local
files, open http://myweb.com or the ip #) and go to
Tools|Server|Administration Home

This will bring up a brower window called Web site Administration for
http://myweb.com/

Go to the bottom, a hyperlink will allow you to create a subweb. Then:

1.. Type a name for the new subweb in the space provided.
2.. In the Permissions area, specify whether or not you want the subweb to
use the same accounts and roles information as the current Web site. If you
choose unique permissions, type the administrator user name.
3.. Click Submit.
You may password protect that subweb, or just leave it open (see permissions
above).

The URL to the subweb would then be like the following
http://myweb.com/my_subweb

You should then build a new website on FP (separate from the parent web),
and publish to http://myweb.com/my_subweb.

This helps keep things separate.

You can also just create folder in your web, either locally or on the live
site directly in FP, then right click on the folder and select Convert To
(sub) Web

When I right click, I have "convert to Wb" but not "convert to subweb". Is this the same thing? Or am I about to make a seperate, or even worse, conglomorated site
