Subscript button and command no longer work

As of a couple days ago, the button and keyboard command for Subscript don't
do anything. I tried removing and replacing the button, doing so with a
reboot in between, changing the keyboard shortcut, repairing Word from the
program and from the install CD, removing and reinstalling the program, all
with no help.

Is there a way to create a -new- toolbar button with the subscript function?
Or is there a registry key that's holding some weird preference?

Yes, I know I can use the Font dialog, but it's a pain when I have to do it a
lot. Also, a way to apply a specific style by a key command would be helpful
(though not as much). And to clarify the problem - the button will toggle
itself when clicked, but the text doesn't change. If I set something to
subscript through the Font dialog, and click the subscript button in the
toolbar, it doesn't return to normal format. Superscript works fine, and
will work on subscripted text, and return it to normal like it should, but
the subscript still does nothing.

Ok, so after deleting my Normal.dot template, the problem is resolved.
Thanks for nothing, Microsoft.

Well, I don't know who advised you to *delete* Normal.dot. This is never
recommended.
