In an Access 2000 database I have created a report and
have inserted a new hearder by adding:
="a" on the FIELD/ EXPRESSION of GROUPING and SORTING
and selecting yes on the HEADER.

In the new header, I have created I inserted a subreport.

The report and subreport work well but the subreport does
not show its headings.

Also is it possible to place the newly created header
above the main page header?

Any help would be appreciated

I assume you mean Page Headers. Nothing "page" related works in
sub-reports as all page activitites are the domain of the parent report.
You can replace the Page Headers in your sub-report with a pseudo-grouping
just as you have already done in your parent and make it the top-level
group with "Repeat Section" property set to True.

You cannot make a group section appear above a Page Header or below a Page
Footer. The exception being the Report Header on the first page. You can
do the same trick though and replace your Page Header with another
pseudo-group section and place it below the one you have now with "Repeat
Section" enabled.
