Installed Maxtor 6Y160PO in a Windows XP sp1 home
edition. The drive is found, partitioned, & working using
the maxblast 3 software (partitioned with 2 - 80GB
partitions). Each time reboot the hardware update wizard
refinds the new hardrive and states: "There was a problem
installing this hardware: Maxtor 6Y160PO. An error
occurred during the installation of this device. One of
the filter drivers installed for this device is invalid.
Click close to finish wizard." Under device mananger the
Maxtor 6Y160PO has a yellow exclamation through it.
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 812581 says this info
only applies to XP Professional edition. Any help you can
give will be appreciated.

Hi, i have a Maxtor drive of 120 gig and had the
same "problem" but then on Windows XP Prof sp1. You
should double click your Maxtor drive in Device Manager
and then click the Driver tab and then click Update
Driver ( or install driver ) and then just click next all
the time till it is finished. This solved the problem for
me. The Maxtor Utility isnt very good, cause it
partitions and enables the disk in DOS. The best thing to
do is to boot into WinXP first, and let it find the Hard
Disk. Then Right Click on My Computer, and click Manage.
Next, click Disk Management and then right click on the
drive you see ( on the coloured lower part of the
screen ) and then click New Partition. this way it always
works ( at least it does for me ... )

Good luck!
