Recently experienced spyware invasion and used Spybot
(downloaded from AOL)to clean out cookies, etc. Several
application programs still acting funny. Biggest problem:
can't launch IE using the "e" icon pre-installed on
desktop of my HP Pavilion 6630. Also won't launch from
Start>Programs>Internet Explorer, or from the Launch
Internet Explorer file/folder in the Windows (I think)
folder. Downloaded IE6 from Microsoft.com and now get
messages that it's installed, but am at a loss how to
launch. Need help ASAP. Thanks.

Hi,
This is probably being caused by third party programs- malware/parasites.

From Control Panel> Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable third party
browser extensions." If that allows IE to open, you have another program
interfering with IE.

Work through the solutions (CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot) at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on that
page.

Or...
A legitimate program running in the background may be causing this. Disable
(for diagnostic purposes) programs such as pop-up blockers, security,
anti-virus, etc. You may have to reinstall, or not reinstall, a program.

The "clean boot" troubleshooting procedure may be necessary.

Hope this helps,
