Hi
I am compiling a booking out and in database for my workplace. I have a main
form for inputting the data and a subform so that they can see the data
(duplicates have to be allowed) but what I don't want and my boss dosen't
want is others not using the dabase as it should be ie: by not inputting data
through the subform.
Is this possible to do?

One possibility is to lock the controls on the subform.
A locked text box or locked combo box will not allow users to add new data
or edit existing data.

My understanding of the post is that the poster wants to force users to input
data only via the form plus subform - No direct access to the tables or queries.

If that is what the poster wants hopefully "pete" will repost with a
clarification.

That said, yes it is possible to control input so that the users input data
via a form + subform. You cannot completely control this behavior against a
determined attack by skilled users. Of course anyone that does exhibit such
behavior can be required to find a new position.

Jeannette - I don't know what I did wrong, but I tried that before and
couldn't get it to work, just tried it again and it is working fine this is
ample for what is needed to be done for now.

John - Only wanted them to read the subform, but enter data by the main
form. because duplicates have to be allowed, for safety reasons etc one piece
of equipment can not be out at the same time to different users on different
dates, so any previous records have to be closed with the 'Date In' being
completed. hope that made sense.
I'm ok with blocking access to specific areas, so the way Jeannette has
pointed is sufficient for now, but if there is a better way? great. I
couldn't agree more about anyone exhibiting such behaviour, they would have
no choice but to find a new position :-))))))
