every time I update a sub-web it messes up my root web?

Do i have to give up Microsoft extensions and just use FTP??

Are you publishing the subweb as http://www.yourdomain.com/subwebname?

If so have you contacted the host to run check on the extensions and/or
check the permissions?

When you publish a subweb, you need to be careful in the way of publishing.
There are two ways to do this that I have used successfully:

1. Publish the entire site after selecting to also publish subwebs. This
needs to be published to the entire website. This would be published to
www.site.com

2. Publish the subweb, only. This needs to be published to the subweb. The
address to publish to could be www.site.com/subweb

If you publish the subweb to the basic site, the result will be that files
from the subweb will be inserted into the files of the basic site.
