Hi Peter
If you need to a) to be on the same line as the iii) you will need to use
LISTNUM fields for the numbers.
To do the whole thing using fields, first set up the numbering scheme you
want using Format > Bullets and Numbers > Outline numbered Customize dialog,
and give the numbering scheme a LISTNUM name. (I suggest you also set up
paragraph styles to deal with the indenting). You can then enter the fields
where you need them, by picking the scheme and the level in the Insert >
Fields dialog.
However, you have many numbered paragraphs, you might want to use
autonumbered styles where you can and just use a LISTNUM field where the
second list item follows on. In this case you would need to set up the
outline numbering from the top level list style (the paragraph style you use
for your ii) below) as explained in
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html
(this is for Headings, but the principles are the same - and critical to
success)
You will also need an unnumbered paragraph style for the special 'follow on'
case, with appropriate tabs and indents.
To create your list, you would then use the paragraph styles where you can,
and for the follow on case use the special style and two unnamed LISTNUM
fields (at appropriate levels) which will pick up on the current list
numbering.
Hope this gets you started - post back for more details if you need them
when you have had a go.
