The SU.EXE utility no longers works after upgrading PCs
From Windows 2000 Professional SP3 to SP4. It returns the
following error msg:

GetSidFromNames error! (rc=6)
The handle is invalid

This occurs whenever a user account that is not a local
admin attempts to run su.exe, passing in the userid and
password on the commandline. It still works if a local
adminsitrator runs it.

Anyone any workarounds/fixes for this?

We experienced this a while ago (exact same error message,
exact same observations regarding local administrator
rights). The hotfix Jerold mentioned did not work for us
so I opened a call with Microsoft. After several days,
the support technician essentially told me that I was out
of luck because su.exe and suss.exe are Resource Kit
utilities.
