So, you dont know how to set up the email client = Stupid Vista ?

Sigh...

Well... anyway..... Check your SMTP settings for outgoing mail
server.

Do you use McAfee as your virus-scanning software--I found problems with it.
Took it out now everything is fine. CA has a free alternative--fits right
into Vista--no problems yet.

This is like saying, "Doctor, I think have a pain somewhere. Fix it."

You will need to be more descriptive; exact error messages, etc.

First they constantly are asking me to verify my username and password, which
i have checked and rechecked several times. I ccopied all required field
exactly as they have asked from my isp (sbc) which i also have checked and
rechecked several times. I have norton security and the error message is :
Account: 'pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com (1)', Server: 'pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com',
Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR popgate unknown command', Port: 110,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18
i hope i answered all necessary question to recieve some assistance. Thanks

Norton is probably screwing things up. Try disabling email scanning or
uninstalling Norton completely if you can and then remove your mail account
and then close and reopen WinMail and then add it back again. Then see if
it works.

see also www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 Apparently the situation is worse
with WinMail.

Thanks for the detailed error message. It speaks volumes!
As Steve Cochran already indicated, Norton Antivirus is messing with
your email. After trying Steve's suggestions, I recommend you get a
different antivirus program, such as the free version of AVG or Avast.
Whichever antivirus program you stick with, it has to be configured NOT
to scan email.

Hello JGilson,

I just got a new laptop that came with Vista. I installed McAfee online
since Norton did not have anything that work on vista yet.... and my Windows
Mail has been a nightmare since... I was blaming Vista until I read your
post... What is CA??? What antivirus/antispyware/firewall do you recommand so
my Windows Mail will work properly? How about being reimbursed by McAfee ???
Damned I am pissed...

Could you answer me at my mail adress please; (e-mail address removed)

Thanks

CA is also NOT free.
Avast is a very good anti-virus program for Vista, works with 32 or 64 bit.
