Okay, here it is. If I set up diskcheck in XP to run at boot, is there
some way to stop it from running once I've rebooted? I did a reboot the
other night and had forgotten that I had it scheduled, still had stuff
to do, and I couldn't figure out how to stop it from running. Since it
was going to takes hours to run by all appearances, I finally went to
bed in frustration. Don't want to repeat that experience...

Try the newsgroup "microsoft.public.windowsxp.general",
and change the subject line to something more likely to
get a reply. - like a statement of your problem or a
question.

You get a chance to stop DSKCHK in the first 10 seconds when it starts
and if you stop it your computer will continue to boot. Next time you
reboot DSKCHK will run again and this time just let it go. It will run
and that's the end of it.

Why is everyone frightened to just turn off the mains? You are the human -
the computer is only a ......................?
