Good Evening,

I installed a second hard drive and installed Windows 2000 on it. The
main drive (C) has XP Pro.

I uninstalled the drive with 2000 on it to install in another computer
(this is where the stupid operator came in).

Now when I boot to the first computer I get a choice of which OS to
boot to. It does not matter which I select 2000 or XP I get an error
message that it cannot boot to 2000 because a file is missing. In
reality the entire drive is missing. I tried to get into Safe Mode but
I get the same error. I tried the XP install CD but when I go to the
repair console and enter my password it gives me a C: prompt and just
sits there.

Is there anyway I can get to XP without reformatting, reinstalling,
etc.?

Thanks for your time.

At the recovery console use the extract command to extract ntldr and
ntdetect.com from your XP CD and put them back in the root of your C
drive. What happened is the Windows 2000 install overwrote those files
with its own versions, causing XP to no longer boot.

I'll give it a shot.
