I'm ready to jump off a bridge on this one. Before I do, can anyone explain
the following:

In Windows XP, Powerpoint 2002, while trying to run an .mp3 file across
several slides, the first slide with the music does not advance.

There are numerous .mp3 files that play, as designed, throughout the
presentation so it's not like I don't understand how the program is supposed
to work.....

But on one particular slide I have an issue. The Effects Option is set at
999 slides. The setting is Start with previous. The slide is set up to
advance automatically after 10 seconds. The sound begins as it should, but
the next slide never transits. Now HERE's the kicker. This only happens
with one .mp3 file. If I remove it, and replace it with another .mp3 file,
the slides move on perfectly.

While I check my map for the closest bridge, what do you think?

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!

Not an expert, but have you tried round tripping the mp3 file thru a wav and
back to mp3? I suppose it could be caused by a corruption of the mp3 file
(but absolutely no idea as to why).

Do not take the bridge, please. The world has far too few people that care
enough to present a good show, and have the tenacity to track the error the
way you have. Besides you might hurt someone.

If you would like to make the MP3 available on a website, or email it, I
could test it here and perhaps others might want to do the same. My email

The obvious question is how did you create the MP3?

I had the same problem. It was like that file got
corrupted so I took my master copy of the mp3 and copied
it again to a different folder on my desktop and used
that one. It worked just fine after that. Hope this
helps!

As a follow-up, Pinger sent the MP3 to me. It played just fine when
inserted and set to run automatically over multiple slides. It seems that
Pinger was probably starting the sound file some seconds into the track,
plus the presentation is set to Kiosk with slide transition timings set. In
this specific combination of settings the sound file will not continue to
play. If the slide timing is removed and a "Next" button is used instead,
the sound continues to play when in Kiosk mode.
