Hey all!

I know this isn't the best group to ask, but every group I join appears to
be a "warez" type group, ripping and posting movies.

What I'm looking for is a way to dump a bunch of AVI's or MPEGs that I have
onto a single DV-R that will play in my DVD player, giving me a menu to
choose which movie I want. It would be great if it would also stitch
multiple files into a single movie if I had it saved in parts (like a 2 part
TV show into a single movie.)

I've tried ULead DVD Workshop and PowerProducer 2 as well as the DVD create
included in Roxios EZ CD Creator 6 package. None seem to work. Roxio is the
closest, but it insists on using my CDRW drive and won't let me choose my
DVD-R drive. Also, if I add a 200meg AVI and chose VCD, it stays about that
size. If I choose DVD the file gets blown up to 800+meg or more.

I don't want the quality altered from the files and as they stand, they
should fit 5 or 6 to a DVD.

Any suggestions on what/how I can do this or a newsgroup where this would be
good to ask?

Thanks muchly!!!

If its in a DVD usually you have to pick a DVD compatible format.
One thing you can do is use files from SVCDs --- most people make
SVCD format files which are not DVD spec files for TV files and films
to be burned on SVCDs of course. However since many DVD players can
already play SVCDs - most new ones , you can actually dump all these
onto a DVD and make a menu and play them on most dvd players that have
this SVCD playing ability.

Now if its a simple manner of putting a bunch of SVCD level files on a
DVD - you can use SVCD2dvdmpg which separates the video and audio
files for you automatically (demuxing) and then coverts the SVCD level
audio to a DVD compatible audio format. The video 480x480 isnt
technically dvd format but itll work as I mentioned above.

If you got the SVCDs in CUE/BIN format - you use ISOBUSTER first to
extract the MPG file from the BIN before you do the above.

Then you can dump all the resulting files into DVD Author by TMPGenc
and make a dvd burnable format output and use NERO. It loads the audio
and video files from above and then you can arrange them and make a
menu in it and then it outputs VOBs to burn and IFOs etc.

You can do a simple search and find guides on it using the exact tools
I mentioned. Theres also guides showing you how to use other tools
doing it more manually - which is harder.

The other tool - I tried the above and had problems with a bunch of
SVCDs and had some problems which might not be the tools fault. My PC
was wonky. Others say they work OK. I ended up using the other popular
tool DVDLAB.

DVD lab is more of a less automated but ALL-IN-ONE solution.
Works for free for 30 days I think. Anyway - after getting the MPGs
with ISObuster as before or if its already in mpg form - then you just
load it up into DVD lab which separates the audio and video converts
the audio . Then you can make a menu and itll covert the whole thing
into VOBs ready to burn. All you need is NERO after that.

If its in AVI format - I cant remember is DvDlab can take avis. Anyway
you can convert avis to mpg with TMPGenc and split and stitch them
too.

The art of converting one format to another is a whole can of worms in
itself. You usually thankfully nowadays get from better sources
DVD2svcd made bin/cues or mpgs - so all you have to do is the above
and its uniform. Now if you are getting all kinds of weird PAL and
other formats - GOOOOD luck. Its really a pain in the ass and some
conversions never come out right or are a real hassle.

DVD2svcd the free util which uses TMPGenc or Cinema Craft encoder etc
has an option to automatically do the conversion for you too - avi in
mpg out.

Another problem with stitching together pieces is some formats end up
with severe out of sync problems in the audio and other problems.
