Stuff from Win ME that's not useful in XP?

When I got this new computer I moved the old computer's files (with PC Move)
to the new one. The old computer ran Win ME, and the new one runs Win XP
Media SP2.

Now I find I get messages saying, for example, that a taskmon.exe entry
point can't be found. In addition, I read on the web that some processes
(like taskmon.exe) are ME-specific and shouldn't be in XP.

Do I maybe have 'junk' from ME in the new computer? Is there a list
somewhere that details what I do not need, and how to get rid of the extra
stuff?

Comments appreciated.

lets see you moved ME files to an XP installation and you ask if you have ME
junk on your XP system...DUH!!
No list.........since we have no idea as to what exactly you moved
over........................
If you have not used the new system too much you might try saving all of
your personal files/work and then do a reovery installation to get back to
when you 1st purchased the system
you manual will explain the details

You might save youre user files/data,with file transfer wizard in ME.But with
xp,it doesnt need or want any ME data, install xp by booting to xp cd,select
install xp,new copy,delete the partition,create one,then xp formats & does
a clean install.One big issue,ME runs on FAT32 file system,xp uses ntfs.

Nope. The situation is identical in both XP Home and XP Professional. They
both can read and use NTFS, AT32, FAT16, and FAT12, in any and all
combinations--separately or together-- and regardless of what file system it
itself is installed on.

thats what I was saying Wrong to...........................

Yes, Andrew E. was wrong, as he invariably is in postings here.

But you said "XPPro uses NTFS XPHome still gives you a choice." That too is
wrong. They *both* give you a choice. As I said XP Professional, uses "NTFS,
AT32, FAT16, and FAT12, in any and all combinations--separately or
together-- and regardless of what file system it itself is installed on."
That's just as true of XP Professional as it is of XP Home.

Don’t look like any one gave you much help with your problem and I would only
comment that I did the transfer from ME to XP using the transfer tool that
came with XP and did not have the problem you describe, so I would suggest
that you start over and use the XP Transfer tool.

I did have to download a free tool to convert all of my files from Microsoft
Works, to Microsoft Word, and discovered that none of the music I transferred
would play on Windows media player. Seems like there is some sort of
ownership code that you must transfer manually and If you don’t you loose it.
I didn’t know & didn’t do it right & ended up having to reload all my CD’s

Good Luck
