Hi, I am fairly new to winows xp and I know only the basics. Someone was
using my computer yesterday and told me that it got a virus, but they cleaned
it. Only problem is now my background is stuck with a blue screen, and I
can't change it. It won't allow me to change the background only the color.
can someone help me? In terms for someone who is fairly computer illiterate?
:-)
thanks!

If you are sure your computer is clean:

Go to the Display applet in Control Panel and look on the Desktop tab.
Click on Customize Desktop, and then click on the Web tab. You will see
that there are checkmarks next to "My Current Home Page" and probably
"Lock Desktop Items". Uncheck these. Click Apply and OK out when you've
made your changes.

If you can't enable desktop backgrounds after a virus, MVP Kelly Theriot
has a fix. Look under Wallpaper-Desktop-Disable Changing here:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_w.htm

If Display tabs are missing, run Kelly's registry edit on line 285,
right-hand side "Restore all display tabs".

I am still confused. There were no checks in those boxes, and I can't figure
out what I am supposed to do on Kelly's web page. I tried what I thought you
meant, but it seemed to not change anything..... I'm sorry any other
suggestions?? Please

I would suggest you take your machine to a professional computer repair
shop and have them 1) make sure it is really virus/malware-free; and 2)
fix any issues such as the one you are having with your display.

I don't say this to hurt your feelings, but if you couldn't figure out
what you were supposed to do and aren't computer-savvy (and there is no
shame in admitting this), then really the best course of action is to
have a professional take a look.

hey thanks anyway. I went to your website and checked out a couple things. I
ended up going to a link you provided http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/ on your
website and I got the problem fixed. Just to be sure I did a virus scan
before and after and both times nothing came out. Anyway it's fixed now.
Thanks!! :)
